What is 0G, 1G, 2G, 2.5G, 3G, and 4G in mobile phone generations?

0G (Mobile radio telephone):
0G also known as Mobile radio telephone. are the systems that preceded modern cellular mobile telephony technology.


1G (Analog Cellular Networks):
1G is the first generation of telephone technology. it introduced in the 1980.These are the analog telecommunications.

• Signals: Analog
• Speed: 14.4 Kbps (peak)
• Technology: AMPS, NMT, TACS
• Duration : 1970 – 1980

2G (Digital Networks):
It is Second Generation of mobile technology. In 2G The communications transformed from analog to Digital. It uses the GSM standard. It has feature like data services for mobile, starting with SMS text messages. 2G technologies enabled the various mobile phone networks to provide the services such as text messages, picture messages and MMS (multi media messages).

• Signals: Digital Narrow band 
• Speed: 9.6/14.4 Kbps
• Technology: TDMA, CDMA
• Duration : 1990 to 2000
• Power:  2G Digital signals require consume less battery power.

2.5G (General Packet Radio Service) :
It is know as Second and half Generation of mobile technology. It Also know as General Packet Radio Service. In 2.5G the internet becomes popular and data becomes more relevant.In 2.5G Phones start supporting web browsing though limited phones have that. It can be used for services such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) access, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), and for Internet communication services such as email and World Wide Web access.

• Speed: 171.2 Kbps(peak)
• Technology: GPRS
• Duration: 2001-2004

3G:
It is Third Generation of mobile technology. In 3G, It supprt High speed IP data networks.3G has Multimedia services support along with streaming.In 3G, Universal access and portability across different device types are made possible.It also provide mobile broadband access of several Mbit/s to smartphones and mobile modems in laptop computers.

• Signals: Digital Broadband Packet Data
• Speed: 3.1 Mbps (peak) 
• Technology: CDMA 2000,UMTS, EDGE
• Duration: 2004-2005

4G:
It is fourth Generation of mobile technology. In 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access.It has high quality audio/video streaming over end to end Internet Protocol. It also provide IP telephony, gaming services, high-definition mobile TV, video conferencing, 3D television, and cloud
computing.

• Signals: Digital Broadband Packet Very high
• Speed: 100-300 Mbps (peak)
• Technology: Wi-Fi,WiMax
• Duration: Currently ruining

5G:
Currently there is no 5G technology developed. It will come soon probably in 2020.
